Our Story

A Family Kitchen Hiding in Plain Sight

Tamalitos started with one simple goal: make tamales the way they're supposed to taste — steamed low and slow, wrapped by hand, and filled with recipes passed down through generations. Tucked into South Callaghan Road, we've become the kind of place regulars discover almost by accident and then can't stop talking about.

Every plate that leaves our kitchen is built on the basics done right: fresh masa, slow-cooked fillings, and enchiladas smothered in sauce made from scratch. Guests tell us it's some of the best tamale they've had in San Antonio, and that our beef nachos and enchiladas are just as memorable. We hear it often, and it's exactly the reaction we're chasing every morning before the doors open at 6 AM.

The dining room is quiet, warm, and unhurried — a place to slow down over a plate of tamales and a strawberry cucumber lemonade. Our servers, like our beloved Sandra, treat every table like family. We're still a small, hardworking kitchen, so we ask for a little patience during busy hours — we promise the wait is worth it.
